First 2 days over!!!!

Well I just made it through the first two days of school! Whew, I am sooo tired and my feet hurt so bad. I forget all we do at the beginning of the year, every year until we start the year again. Oh yeah, we can now have 24! Yikes! I just love our President and Governor who have never taught Kindergarten before. I would love for them to teach a class of 20, 22, or 24 for a week and see if they would raise our numbers. I think lawmakers should try it first. (Time to get off my soapbox)
I hope everyone is having a great year! I can't wait till the first 3 weeks are over. I just need to remember to be stricter, that way I have more control at the beginning. They are so sweet and cute.I sometimes let too much go.... Tomorrow Meanie Hoang will be there.

I need to know if anyone has used a math program called "Investigations"? I just found out today, we are dropping Envisions and doing Investigations. I know you are all so great about sharing your plans when teachers are in a crunch. We need an example of how you do it,  materials storage suggestions, etc, anything would be helpful.
Thank you in advance.
Sorry to be missing in action... We have had PD's all week (information overload...)

Organizing, Organizing, Organizing!

When I finish all this organization, I will post pics of all I have done. My husband made color copies for me of some of the wonderful polka dot materials I found from ya'll. Soo I am cutting, laminating (with contac paper) yeah I haven't broken down and got a laminator yet :( Here's a couple of things I finished)

Oh yeah! My 14 yr. old son got all 4 wisdom teeth out (so I am at his mercy). My 12yr. old has a inner and outer ear infection. So I have been busy with playing Doctor. My mom is flying in tomorrow morning (time to clean!!!!!)
My new binder for Reading Street materials, our scope and sequence, my materials.

I made four of these for small groups. I got this from  http://whattheteacherwants.blogspot.com/

These are going to go on my dry erase board to let the kids know what they need to do. I got this from http://www.misskindergartenblogspot.com/

I put a magnet on a post-it too :) I figure I can use it for the R.S. amazing words and label them on the posters

I added this to my BEE folders, I plan to put a monthly calendar in here (it's a little harder for the students to show each other their behavior that day......

Bee Binder for students

Here is my version of a BEE (Bring Everything Everyday) Binder:
This is the front cover (I printed it off and used scotch tape to tape down)

Front pocket is for important notes and then I printed off the directions for folder for parents
(I found this one from http://www.jmeacham.com/ site and adapted it)

I used two sheet protectors (one for direction sheet and 1 for the money)
I used a divider for a parent/teacher communication (I added 8 sheets of notebook paper)

This is the back cover and for parents to keep at home.

I plan to add a file folder hole-punched with a behavior chart.

Reading Street focus board pictures

Well i finished Unit 1 and Unit 2 focus boards. Here is a picture of each of mine.

In Texas Mardel's is having 20% off all day tomorrow for teacher. On July 27th Teacher Tools  is having their 20% off sale! I went in today and got some markdowns 50% off of welcome bulletin board  pictured below for $6 and the  A-Z  one for $9! I got the frogs border for $1 at Mardels.

The things below I got at TARGET of course (all for $1 except the letter stamps, they were $2.50)

The letter below I made from blog stalking, I got the gems from the Dollar Tree for 1, then the stickers. I used the decoupage stuff and there you go a center!

Below I got these from Jo Ann's fabric for $2.00 off each (cost me almost 20 for 2 yards for each. Yikes!)
I am going to use it for a bulletin board. I will have pics later of the finished product.

Go to http://misskindergartenlove.blogspot.com/ Miss Hadar is having a song linky party.
I love songs, I use quite a few of the same ones you all use. Another one you can use is-
"The first thing on your paper is your name, name, name,
The first thing on your paper is your name, name, name,
If you don't write your name, then I don't know how your are,
So the first thing on your paper is your name!"

"Clean up, clean up everybody do your share,
clean up, clean up everybody everywhere,
Clean up, clean up sit quietly on the carpet.
Clean up, clean up everybody everywhere."

STAPLES...need I say more

Staples has 4 oz. glue for .01, 8 pk. of black bic pens .01, and 12 pk. pencil top erasers .01. The limit is 2, but with your teacher ID you can get 25!!!!!! Stock up. They also have .25 deals as well, copy paper with a rebate, mechanical pencils etc.

All about me ideas......

I use the following story from Vicki Witcher.  I have it as a blackline book, and I've made sentence strips for the pocket chart, using the illustrations from the book.  I also have a cute child (about 3 feet tall) on my bulletin board, with the text written on sentence strips and placed adjacent to the correct part of the body.  This is one of our first stories for tracking print and learning one-to-one correspondence.
I See Me By Vicki Witcher
I see my head. I see my shoulder. I see my arm. I see my elbow. I see my wrist. I see my knee. I see my ankle. I see all of me!
Part of our end-of-year assessment in kindergarten requires the children to name body parts as the teacher points to them.  I discovered many of my students didn't know the words wrist and ankle, so we now learn them at the beginning of the year.
Our hands are our learning tools, and I like to explore the many ways we can use them.
Hands, Hands, Hands
by Marcia Vaughan
A rhyming story about the many things hands can do,
including hugging and helping.

  Follow Up Activities
Make a chart of all the good things and bad things that hands can do.  This fits in nicely with teaching school rules.
Make a Language Experience Big Book of children's drawings of their hands (or of handprints made with paint), adding a sentence from each child about something special they do with their hands.
Make a book based on The Wright Group's I Can Jump,  using the following writing frame:  Hands can ______ and ______, but hands shouldn't ______.
Make fingerprints and examine them with a magnifying glass.  You can also make finger-and-thumb-print flowers and bugs, and have the children make a picture of their family  using fingerprints for heads.
Make a  strip with each child's handprints in a single row, made in an A-B-C pattern of 3 colors of light paint.  When the handprints are dry, number the fingers from 1 to 100 (for a class of 20 students) and number the palms with multiples of 5.  Post this number line where they can use it all year long.  Mine is attached to the calendar wall.

Back to school

Check this website out, it is a wealth of information...

Beginning of the year ideas

I use these procedures (like: bathroom, pencils etc.) by printing them out and gluing them to lg. index cards. I then hole punch them and add a book ring to remind me to practice these procedures daily :) Leave me a comment with your email address and I will email it to you. I am having problems attaching it to the web page :(
